Abstract

We present ASCA results of the Sculptor supercluster, a rich supercluster with a redshift of 0.11, near to the south galactic pole. We searched for excess emission associated with the supercluster, and obtained the 3 σ upper limit as 16% of the brightness of the cosmic X-ray background in the 0.8–10 keV band. The X-ray properties of member clusters were analyzed and compared with other clusters. As for temperature-luminosity relation, no difference between the clusters in this supercluster and other clusters could be found. Applying the β model, we estimated the gas mass and the total gravitational mass associated with individual clusters, as well as those of the overall supercluster.
