Abstract

The present investigation is divided in two different parts – the first is mainly theoretical, and presents authors and ideas related to cultural importance of wine brotherhoods and its relation to wine tourism; the second part presents some aspects of Portuguese reality presenting the evolution of wine brotherhoods in several Portuguese wine regions. The present case study aims to reveal in detail the role of Vinho Verde Brotherhood in this programmatic view. It will be developed analysis with the contribution of direct observation, action?investigation on a participant way and ethnographic investigation (resulting, mainly, on a decade of the author’s participation on the brotherhood activities).
