Abstract

Lack of open green areas in cities has increased urban dwellers’ need and demand for green areas. Public agencies, on the other hand, gave priority to design closest forest areas for recreational purposes. Therefore, urban forest is an activity area in which different forest recreation activities are possible with this study potential of Artvin Urban Forest, which constitutes a great proportion of the oldest recreation area of Artvin (Kafkasor Yaylasi) is explained and demographics and recreational preferences of public using this forest are investigated. Almost all of the subjects use the urban forest and its surroundings for recreational purposes because of its tranquility. People from all ranges of income levels use the area for recreation and picnicking especially during the summer months. Present infrastructure in the area, on the other hand, found to be inadequate, resulting in low demand in all seasons except summer.
