Abstract

Those who work in community health services will no doubt be aware of the therapeutic use of the arts for patients. However, most nurses will be hard pressed to say much about how arts development is applied specifically to patients or generally to public health initiatives. Mike White, research and development fellow in arts and health, Durham University, addresses this knowledge gap. He provides an overview by tracing the roots of arts development, with several case studies from Ireland, Australia and South Africa.
