Abstract
The playwright discusses the evolution of Spirit of Detroit; from solo performance piece to ensemble play. Excerpts from the final performance script introduce the play and offer two key moments that relate to the crucial themes of racism and friendship between the two central characters. Three of her collaborators and two outside reviewers respond to presentations of the play in Ann Arbor, MI, New York City, and Detroit, MI.
