Abstract

This article is the result of international scientific collaboration of leading pianists-performers from Uzbekistan and Russia. Turning to the study of piano ensemble music by György Ligeti (1923-2006), the authors focus on piano pieces in four hands that date back to the early period of the leader of the modern musical avant-garde, revealing their artistic world, reflecting the composer's aesthetics. The aim is to study Ligeti's works for piano in four hands, revealing their stylistic features. The musical material for the study is original miniatures for the four-handed piano (March and Three Wedding Dances), in which the composer's innovative style is concentrated. The article applies modern methods of complex, structural and artistic analysis, and offers executive approaches and solutions. The significance of this work lies in identifying the features of the Ligety piano ensemble style. The results of the research and creative collaboration between the authors are of great scientific and practical importance. The Conclusion summarises the scientific and performing analysis and assesses the artistic and aesthetic importance of Ligeti piano ensemble work. The conclusions emphasise the role of continuity between Ligeti's early piano ensemble works and Vienna's classical and romantic traditions (Beethoven and Schubert), the reliance on which has contributed to a vivid identification of the composer's individuality in the context of his Ligeti style.
