Abstract

ABSTRACT With the increased use of Secondary Oil Recovery Techniques and in particular of pumped artificial lift systems, there was a requirement for a more reliable, flexible and robust form of downhole pump. To this end the author's company has developed the Hydraulic Turbine Drive Downhole Pump. This paper examines the background to and the development of the unit together with a detailed step by step description as to the methods and procedures used when selecting a suitable downhole pump/turbine configuration, for either an oil or water lift application.
