Abstract
Japanese industries have recently much interest in artificial intelligence for solving difficult problems. The main fields are knowledge engineering, natural language processing, speech recognition, computer vision, and robotics. Promising application areas are picked up for each subject area, and the current state of the development in those areas are described. Some of new practical systems are also introduced.
