Abstract

This paper discusses the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the development of cockpit aids for commercial transports. Flight tasks that are suitable candidates for intelligent aiding are identified through pilot interviews. Then, human factors issues relevant to the introduction of such aids are discussed. Finally, AI research needs as they relate to this application are noted.
