Artificial insemination in horses

Abstract

THE uptake and widespread acceptance of artificial insemination (Al) in horses has lagged behind that in other species. Most breed societies will now allow registration of progeny conceived by Al, but thoroughbreds produced by Al cannot be registered with Weatherbys. It is important that veterinary surgeons can perform these techniques successfully rather than allow lay personnel to offer what may be a less than adequate service to horse breeders.
