Abstract

Contrary to Hudspeths claim in his reply (this issue), his Delta VEPs provided a definitive artifactual basis for VEP form-color categorization in his original paper, including the estimation of the ′neuroelectric transfer functions" generated by his original PCA procedure. I confirmed this in PCAs conducted on waveforms either generated or selected randomly and analyzed in strict accord with Hudspeths stated original PCA procedure. The new procedure that he advocates in his reply to my criticisms, namely PCA involving only the original four waveforms, is relatively uncontroversial and could reveal VEP data patterns that correlate with the form and color dimensions of his four original stimuli, if they exist. However, this approach was not used in Hudspeth (1993), and, despite a token and incomplete presentation of one demonstration data set in his reply, Hudspeth has not provided an appropriate reanalysis of his experimental results.
