Abstract

Albakistani et al. (e01455-21) monitored over 5 years the dynamics of methanotrophic bacteria in an end-pit lake designed to remediate water at an old mine site. Lake stratification and temperature drove consistent seasonal patterns in the growth and activity of different methanotrophic species. These findings are important to understand the contribution of seasonally stratified lakes to the global methane cycle and climate change.
