Abstract

Previous studies showed that municipal activated sludge has a globally distributed core bacterial community, and one taxon of the core bacterial community is strongly linked to the performance of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) but was not successful in cultivation. Song et al. (e02209-19) cultivated and characterized that core taxon and named it Casimicrobium huifangae. C. huifangae is ubiquitous in worldwide WWTPs and also serves as a central hub in the bacterial network in the Qinghe WWTP (Beijing, China). This work improves our understanding of activated sludge microbiology.
