Article 13. (Entry into Force)

Abstract

This Convention shall enter into force on the date on which two States have become Parties thereto. It shall thereafter enter into force with respect to each State and territory on the date of deposit of the instrument of ratification or accession of that State or notification of application to that territory. In April 1956, the Economic and Social Council decided that ta conference of plenipotentiaries should be convened in order to complete the drafting of the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade and Institutions and Practices similar to Slavery.t The negotiations which led to the provisions of Article 13 of the 1956 Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery shows an international system which had yet to come to grips with an emerging regime of international human rights law.Keywords: 1956 Supplementary Convention; abolition of slavery; Economic and Social Council; slave trade; State
