Abstract

Arthus reactions can be produced in chickens. The sensitivity of chickens to the Arthus reaction was low compared to the sensitivity of some other animal species. Reverse passive Arthus reactions (RPA) of minimal severity were produced with 60–120 μg of either rabbit or chicken anti-BSA N. The reaction was not induced in the guinea pig with as much as 312 μg chicken anti-BSA N. Older chickens were less sensitive than young chicks to RPA; maximal reactions occurred in 4- to 6-week old chicks. These findings extend the range of biological activities of chicken antibodies.
