Abstract

Palmar midcarpal instability has become increasingly well recognised and diagnosed in patients with a painful, clunking wrist. Treatments with open surgical techniques have not done consistently well. The loss of movement following partial wrist arthrodesis can be equally disabling. Arthroscopic capsular shrinkage offers a technique which has given good, reliable functional results, with minimal loss of motion. Care must be taken to avoid thermal injuries to adjacent structures.
