Abstract

5864 white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) from the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Cuba were examined for ectoparasites. Most of the collections were made in the southeastern United States. Twenty-five species of arthropods were found which included Metastigmata: Amblyomma americanum, A. maculatum, Boophilus annulatus, B. microplus, Dermacentor albipictus, D. nigrolineatus, D. nitens, D. variabilis, Haemaphysalis leporispalustris, Ixodes affinis, I. scapularis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus; Prostigmata; Eutrombicula sp., Neotrombicula whartoni; Astigmata: Demodex sp., Psoroptes sp.; Mesostigmata: Raillietia auris; Anoplura: Haematopinus suis, Solenopotes binipilosus; Mallophaga: Tricholipeurus lipeuroides, T. parallelus; Diptera: Cephenemyia Phobifera, Lipoptena cervi, L mazamae; Siphonaptera: Cediopsylla simplex.
