Abstract

Summary A case was presented of arteriovenous malformation in the region of the right basal vein of Rosenthal associated with an ipsilateral orbital varix. The patient's symptoms were intermittent exophthalmos and strabismus of the right eye. Neurological examination was negative except for paresis of the left fingers and the history of epileptic seizures. Angiography confirmed the vascular anomalies both within the cranium and in the orbit. A review of the literature of similar cases reported as ‘aneurysm of the great cerebral vein of Galen’ is given. Grateful acknowledgement is made to Professor R. Asayama and Assistant Professor I. Tsukahara for their constant interest and guidance in this case study. Thanks are also tendered to Dr. H. Handa, Instructor in Neurosurgery, for valuable information concerning this disease.
