As a base lme, the effect of pre-anaesth;tic medication on the rterial blood gases was compared with normal, unpreinedicated controls Melendine and atropme given together by intramuscular 1jection, about one hour before samphng, were found to cause no significant altration m arterialpO2, pH, or standard bicarbonate There was a rise in arterialpCO2 which was only ignificant at approximately the 6 percent level
