Abstract
Two problems affecting the professional community of art therapists, negative politics and passivity, became an impetus for investigating the persona and shadow of the art therapist's professional identity. Through the lens of Jungian theory of the shadow, the author identifies ways in which its dynamics and manifestations occur in the field of art therapy. This article introduces experiential exercises for discovering and working with the shadow, and concludes with recommendations for transforming negative dynamics into creative solutions.
