Abstract

Introduction: Cardiac arrhythmias in athletes have attracted significant attention from professionals in the field, considering that they can be associated with more serious conditions requiring detailed clinical evaluation including physical examination and medical history. Objective: This review aims to describe cardiac arrhythmias in athletes, focusing on diagnosis and prevention. Method: This study is an integrative bibliographic review that includes original and review articles to select relevant information for this research outcome. Results: Various cardiovascular diseases can be found in athletes, with the electrocardiogram (ECG) being the initial step to identify irregularities in heartbeats. Additionally, physical examinations and evaluation of family history are necessary. Conclusion: Monitoring cardiac arrhythmias is essential for athlete safety, requiring not only accurate diagnosis but also preventive strategies such as pre-participation evaluations, management of pre-existing conditions, and education about arrhythmia symptoms.
