Abstract

AbstractWe propose an incoherent optical correlator for header recognition in optical packet‐switched networks, employing two arrayed waveguide grating and waveguide delay lines. The operation is demonstrated experimentally for 4‐bit patterns at 2.5 Gb/s. Results show that the proposed optical correlator generates autocorrelation and cross‐correlation signals that can easily be recognized using a simple threshold detector. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
