In science news around the world this week, demonstrators gathered to protest recent cuts against research budgets in Spain, Japan is considering its own National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a proposal to upgrade the status of captive chimpanzees from "threatened" to "endangered," the University of Chicago and the Marine Biological Laboratory are joining forces, and a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University and his colleagues are calling for researchers and journals to publish "invisible" data.
