Abstract
1,2,3,4-Tetrafluorodibenzofuran has been prepared from hexafluorobenzene and o-lithio-anisole via 2′-hydroxy-2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobiphenyl which undergoes an intramolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction with potassium carbonate in dimethyl formamide. 1,2,3,4-Tetrafluorodibenzofuran undergoes nucleophilic substitution reactions with sodium hydrogen sulphide, sodium thiomethoxide and LAH involving replacement of the 3-fluorine atom; this was established by reference to an Ullmann reaction between o-bromo-anisole and bromo-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene.
