Abstract

Catalytic activity of various zeolite Y catalysts for conversion of aniline to diphenylamine (d.p.a.) is demonstrated. The variation of catalytic activity with degree of exchange on NaHY catalysis shows a maximum at an intermediate level of exchange. This implies possible participation of acidic as well as cation sites in the reaction. An interesting observation was the negative dependence of rate on temperature at all levels of exchange. The variation of activity with calcination temperature was also investigated. A marked decreased in activity above a calcination temperature of 550°C was observed. This suggests that Brönsted sites are probably involved in the reaction.
