Abstract

Eighty patients with breast cancer were treated with high-dose chemotherapy and stem-cell rescue. Overall, about one-third of these patients suffered with skin rashes of some kind but showed the same engraftment characteristics and did not require additional support or hospitalization. Those patients with skin rashes were divided into two groups; the aromatherapy group was treated with an aqueous cream containing essential oils and plant extracts whilst the control group received standard treatment. There were no differences between the aromatherapy and control groups with respect to the parameters observed.
