Abstract

In the light of Pekić’s understanding of the notion of archetype as primarily ontological category, the paper aims to explore various manifestation of the archetype of trade articulated in the seventh book of the Golden Fleece, that index of meaning that determines hystorical trade sailing of the Njago/Njegovan familly. From the trade nautics point of view the paper equally examines crusial, ideologically divergent aspect between Noemis and heroic world, particularly antagonism between Noemis and Orpheus which profiles the characters as bear- ers of civilizational alternatives – the rationalist, materialistic world and spiritual, moral and artistic orientations. In addition to point out textual nods in which the motive of fatal error activates irreparable, by Noemis acts predestined materialistic direction, the paper is intended to elucidate the notion of spiritual metamorphosis by which the enchantment with exact, pan- logical relations could be weakened. It is this imperative of spiritual transformation and the awareness of the necessity of human liberation from total dependence on matter and ration- alist-pragmatic relations that suggests the justification of Pekić’s autopoetic thought about the Golden Fleece as a novel of hope.
