Abstract
Long-germ efficacy of argon laser trabeculoplasty was evaluated in fifty-one eyes with uncontrolled primary open angle glaucoma. The overall success rate at the end of five years is 52.9%. The mean decrease of IOP in the treated eyes was 5.9 mmHg at one year, 7.4 mmHg at two years, 6.2 mmHg at three years, 5.7 mmHg at four years, and 5.9 mmHg at five years. These changes from baseline were all statistically significant (p<0.001). The favorable factors for success were older age and lower prelaser baseline IOP. It is also found that success or failure of the ALT in the first treated eye predicts similar result in the fellow eye.
