Abstract

Previously reported experimental data show that argon injection is effective for deoxidizing steel in 10-lb induction furnace heats. Present tests, conducted in a covered ladle with argon injected either through a lance or a bottom-mounted device, indicate that it is possible on a 1-ton scale to closely approach the results of the smaller experimental heats. In addition, data are presented showing removal of both hydrogen and nitrogen by argon injection.
