Abstract
Argentina's unanswered stroke health-care question
Highlights
Stroke prevention is on the medical agenda in Argentina
Stroke is theoretically covered by the so-called public system, which provides health care to those who have no social security or private policy—but this public system is resource-starved and struggles to provide basic services to its users
Oct 31, 2015, saw the publication of the Declaration of Santiago de Chile, a document sponsored by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, promoting the scaling up of stroke prevention and treatment in the Americas
Summary
Stroke prevention is on the medical agenda in Argentina. Improving stroke recognition and treatment is too. For a country making attempts to reduce its stroke burden, passing a law that obliges its complex health-care system to provide the necessary treatment to all its citizens might seem like a much needed first step.
