Abstract

1. A reaction is establish between the blinking variations and the state of cholinergic and of adrenergic structures of the brain stem. 2. Species differences have been established in the reacion of cholinergic anrenergic structures of the brain stem: (a) the administration of arecoline increases blinking frequency in certain species of animals, while in others it stops the blinking altogether; (b) the administration of amphetamine causes the blinking frequency to increase in certain species of animals (experiments on rats and rabbits), while it stops the blinking in other species (experiments on pigeons and guinea-pigs). 3. The possibility is established to inhibit the arecoline phenomenon by cholinolytics (experiments with atropine, scopolamine, methyl-benactyzine, caramiphen), and the amphetamine phenomenon by chlorpromazine and IEM-366. 1.
