Abstract

AbstractCould it be the case that you are an evil person? Milgram’s Obedience Experiment suggests that the majority of us are disposed to inflict extreme harms on other people in certain circumstances. This chapter explores the implications of this terrible discovery. We ought to realize that we ourselves are prone towards terrible wrongdoing when we are influenced by authority figures. However, most people do not seek out the opportunity to inflict extreme harms on innocent victims. Serial killers who do seek out these opportunities and who are beyond redemption should be judged to be evil.
