Abstract

Rationale: Certain patients established on long-term parenteral nutrition (PN) receive lipid free (aqueous) formulations for reasons such as liver dysfunction or intolerance to the lipid component. Certain commonly used adult IV multivitamin preparations stable in aqueous formulations do not contain any vitamin K (phylloquinone), and a vitamin K deficiency was suspected in certain home PN patients under the care of the Intestinal Failure (IF) centre.
