Abstract

In Brief Trainees in US graduate medical education training programs are compensated on the basis of postgraduate year of training, not hours worked. This creates an inherently unfair compensation structure, with large discrepancies in hourly pay rates. We propose restructuring of salaries to promote fundamental fairness in how housestaff are compensated.
