Abstract

The concept of early goal-directed therapy in patients with severe sepsis generated considerable interest following a single-center randomized controlled trial among patients who presented to the emergency department. Many clinical guidelines recommended this strategy of bundled care in early sepsis. Subsequently, multicenter randomized controlled trials were conducted to re-evaluate the efficacy of this strategy. This chapter summarizes the efficacy of early goal-directed therapy in patients with severe sepsis.
