Abstract

The article by Voicu et al1 in this issue is troubling, but also not news to most vascular surgeons, whether in private or hospital-based practices. Professional reimbursement for surgical care of critical limb ischemia (CLI) is insufficient to cover the cost of care. For the most part, I agree with the authors' methods and conclusions, although there may be factors specific to individual situations that make the problem more or less severe such as institutional support for care by advanced practice providers or house staff.
