Abstract

In spite of a remarkable decrease of gastric cancer incidence [1], the neoplasia of the stomach represents the second most frequent cause of cancer mortality in the world [2], mainly, because of a late diagnosis. In the management of malignant gastric diseases, the challenge consists in selecting the high-risk population for which strategies could be developed for gastric cancer prevention. For this purpose, it is important to know both the histopathological sequence and aetio-pathogenetic mechanisms underlying gastric cancer.
