Abstract

Prior studies in adults and adolescents have revealed sex differences in fear extinction, with females frequently showing poorer extinction as compared to males. This disparity may help to explain the greater reported vulnerability of females than males to fear-based disorders, such as anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder. It is unclear whether sex differences exist in pre-adolescent children.
