Abstract

Planetary wave type (T = 2–30 days) oscillations in F2 region parameters have been observed by several authors. Here we present such oscillations in foF2 from central European stations Juliusruh and Průhonice. They are compared with tides inferred from wind measurements at a nearby station Collm to check the hypothesis of planetary wave modulation of upward propagating tides at lower thermospheric heights as a mechanism responsible for planetary wave type oscillations at F2 layer heights. The results show that this mechanism does not play a dominant role but it can contribute to such oscillations.
