Abstract

Introduction: There is currently a poor understanding of associations between physical environments and physical activity in rural settings. Rural adults represent 30% of the Australian population, and their environments are characterised by large open spaces, low population densities, fewer physical activity facilities, and limited public transport. This study aimed to determine whether the physical environment and physical activity were differentially associated according to urban-rural status among Australian adults aged 55–65 years.
