Abstract

Health Innovation and Education Clusters (HIECs) are being proposed to: ‘establish partnerships between NHS organizations, the higher education sector, industry and other public and private sector organizations to support the spread and adoption of innovation within NHS delivery’ (Department of Health (DH), 2009). HEICs are the final component of bringing about local change as part of delivering the NHS Next Stage Review’s (DH, 2008a) ambitions of high quality healthcare, so that healthcare professionals have all the necessary skills and experience founded upon excellent education and training (DH, 2008b).
