Abstract

THE PURPOSE of this paper is two fold: (1) to summarize the responses yielded by a check-list constructed to survey the duties, responsibilities tech niques employed by, and the training and experience required of, research workers in large public school systems, state departments of education, and state education associations; and particularly, (2) to consider the check-list data in light of the hypothesis that many activities conducted under the name of educational research are improperly called research, in the accepted mean ing of that term.
