Abstract
This paper reviews the problems encountered by this utility in finding a reliable and economical protection scheme to protect spot networks from arcing ground faults. We have also shown the various methods that we have implemented to resolve this problem on old spot network installations and on new installations through the use of ground relays, ultraviolet detectors and continuous line thermal detection systems.
