Abstract

The architecture of an enhanced database system for interactive computer-aided design is outlined. It satisfies designer's diversified requirements, providing: • • a flexible zooming and in order to enhance global-to-detailed expansion capabilities • • intermixed use of pictorial and character data • • interactive design of data schemas and their dynamic binding with data values • • flexible connection of various types of graphic terminals The architecture is supported by several key techniques which are different from those for designing current commercial database systems for business use: • • flat datastructure combined with dynamic restructuring capability • • a universal data model based on the recursive graph theory • • virtual graphics architecture
