Abstract

Cyber-Manufacturing System (CMS) is an amalgamation of operational and information entities with manufacturing processes with an overall objective of improved productivity. This amalgamation ensures timely delivery of products, remote access to manufacturing process and real-time analysis of processes. However, these create vulnerability for cyber attackers to intrude the manufacturing processes. Intentionally or unintentionally, they possess the power to disturb manufacturing process, cause alteration of products, machine failure, or a fatal accident. A thorough literature review has been conducted on the development of available detection and prevention methods for CMS. A 5-layer architecture for CMS to address both detection and prevention of CMS against cyber physical attacks has been developed.
