Abstract

At present, the Internet of Things (IoT) is being applied increasingly widely in the field of healthcare for the diagnosis of disease, treatment of the disease, recovery from the disease, and also the disease monitoring process in future years. The use of such IoT-based systems in this domain requires the healthcare industry to collaborate with the technical sector. The real-time monitoring of the data plays a significant role indecision-making. The integration of multiple types of devices from different manufacturers is also a significant factor in the development of the IoT healthcare sector. Securing patients’ data in IoT healthcare system is important. In addition, privacy is a top priority in the healthcare system as the information related to the patient’s needs to be maintained confidentially. In the first section of this chapter, the architecture of the healthcare system based on the IoT integrated with cloud computing is presented. The advantages and limitations of IoT in the healthcare system are explained in Section 16.2. Section 16.3 covers applications of the IoT in the healthcare system. Finally, Section 16.4 elaborates current challenges and research direction towards the design of an optimized IoT-based healthcare system. This gives an insight for researchers, designers, and professionals in designing the best and suitable IoT-based healthcare system.
