Abstract

Recent developments in speech technology now provide opportunities for improving productivity when using computer-assisted design systems. Confusing control codes can be entirely eliminated. The user has greater control over the operating environment than when using conventional keyboard systems. Speech input and output facilities can be integrated with other devices such as digitising tablets, plotters and touch-sensitive screens. The continuing reduction in price and the improvement in hardware and supporting software is encouraging a surge in Interest in speech-assisted systems. Once the scope for their use is fully recognised, it is anticipated that there will be a dramatic expansion of these facilities.
