Summary
This paper aims to show the organization of the stonework in the fortress of Montelaterone (Amiata, Tuscany), by comparing documental and archaeological sources. Fin dall’inizio del XIII secolo il castello è interessato da un tentativo di controllo militare e politico da parte del comune di Siena che si realizza pressoché definitivamente, istituendo un condominio «signorile» che erode parzialmente la signoria abbaziale di San Salvatore su Montelaterone, proprio tra il 1260 e il 1270, con la costruzione della rocca senese (NANNI, 2002).
