Abstract

A test boring on a building site in Zurich, Switzerland, revealed the existence of archaeological remains beneath the site through the observation of a stone axe found in examination of one of the cores. Redesign of the foundations permitted careful excavation for the basements, by archaeologists, while superstructure erection proceeded. The significant findings are a useful reminder of the importance of proper supervision of all site exploration work. Key words: archaeology, site investigation, supervision.
