Abstract
A systematic survey for archaeological sites was conducted in 1980 in part of this forest, extending 70 km north to south and averaging 4 km wide, during an environmental investigation of mining leases for the Worsley Alumina Project (Pearce 1981). The results showed a surprisingly high incidence of sites, averaging about one site per square kilometre, of the same order as that on the Swan Coastal Plain near Perth (Hallam 1977b:19).
